A native of Spain, José Andrés is chef/owner of ThinkFoodGroup,
and with partner Rob Wilder, is the team responsible for Washington’s popular and award-winning dining concepts Jaleo, Zaytinya, Oyamel, America Eats Tavern and the critically-acclaimed minibar by josé andrés, as well as The Bazaar by José Andrés, part of the SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills, and Jaleo and China Poblano at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas. ThinkFoodGroup oversees all of José’s creative endeavors such as cookbooks, television programming, concept consulting and project development. José was named Outstanding Chef of the Year at the 2011 James Beard Foundation Awards.

Inspired by Joan Miró: The Ladder of Escape on view at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, Jose Andres and his culinary team have created a special menu of signature catalan dishes for the Garden Cafe. The Garden Café Catalonia menu is presented in partnership with Restaurant Associates and Executive Chef David Rogers at the National Gallery of Art and will be available May 1 through September 30th. José Andrés was named “Outstanding Chef” by the James Beard Foundation at their annual awards gala in New York on May 9th. Recently named “Hot Restaurateur” by Conde Nast Traveler, José served as one of the Chef Co-Chairs for the awards gala, considered the food world’s Oscars. This award is the culmination of a busy year for José during which he successfully opened three new restaurants at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, taught at Harvard as part of a course “Science and Cooking” and launched new nonprofit World Central Kitchen dedicated to fighting global hunger.

In addition, the “60 Minutes” segment on José has been nominated “Best Television Segment”. The JBF awards ceremony will be held May 9th at Avery Fisher Hall in NYC.

José and his friends are currently traveling around Haiti showing people how to set up and use these solar kitchens.
